What we saw in Austin
On Oct 30, 2026 we asked ChatGPT and Gemini 4 common Austin AC questions, 3 times each, logged out (Gemini on its Flash-Lite model). For "best AC repair company in Austin," ChatGPT cited Contractors Ranked and Expertise in 2 of its 3 answers, and Best Pick Reports and the BBB in 1. For the more specific questions (emergency repair, family-owned, affordable installation), both tools leaned on companies' own websites, usually the exact page for that service.
Steps that help
- Give each service its own page. In our tests, Gemini cited a dedicated emergency AC repair page in all 3 of its emergency answers. If you offer 24/7 service, say so on its own page, near the top.
- Tell your story on an About page. For "family-owned HVAC," ChatGPT cited companies' About pages in all 3 answers. Say who owns the business, how long you've served the area and what you stand for.
- Put prices, specials and financing in writing. For "affordable AC installation," ChatGPT cited installation specials pages in all 3 answers, and financing pages and Austin Energy's rebate page in 2 of 3.
- Claim your directory profiles. Contractors Ranked, Expertise, Best Pick Reports and the BBB showed up as sources for the broad question. Make sure your name, phone and service area match everywhere.
- Let AI crawlers in and add business markup. Check that robots.txt doesn't block
